The Eden Sessions summer season continued with a spellbinding performance by Scottish singer-songwriter, Paolo Nutini, who graced the stage of the Eden Project this Wednesday, June 19th.

Ahead of his performance, the audience were treated to an energetic opening set by Prima Queen, an all-female indie/alternative rock band fronted by song writing duo and best friends Louise Macphail from Bristol, UK, and Kristin McFadden from Chicago, USA.

Nutini, dressed casually in a white shirt and jeans, kicked off the evening with a freestyle rendition of his song “Afterneath,” accompanied by mixed media graphics displaying “You’re so cool” on the screen; the creative and mellow opening, setting the tone for the night.

Following the electrifying opener, Nutini got the crowd singing and dancing with his hit “Scream (Funk My Life Up),” his raspy vocals blending perfectly with the bass guitar and rhythmic beats.

In a nod to his Scottish roots, Nutini performed a spirited cover of Stealers Wheel’s “Stuck in the Middle with You.” The crowd responded enthusiastically, singing and dancing along as Nutini moved and grooved on stage, clearly enjoying himself.

Nutini then delved into his track “Acid Eyes,” with psychedelic visuals, followed by a heartfelt performance of “Through the Echoes,” where the crowd’s voices were resounding within the venue.

CHAOS Radio presenter Henry Rosewall interviewed some excited audience members prior to Paulo Nutini’s Eden Session

CHAOS Radio spoke with fans in the Eden Sessions crowd about the Paolo Nutini songs they were listening out for on the night and what his music means to them.

Many concurred that summer, sunshine and straw-hats made them reminiscent of his repertoire, as they took in the Cornish summer sun.

The atmosphere throughout the night was light-hearted and relaxed, with an audience that ranged from long-time fans to new listeners, all united by their love for Nutini’s music. Fans of all ages came to bask in the sounds of Nutini, and for some it was their first experience of an Eden Session.

Matt, who had travelled across the border from Devon, said “I’ve wanted to visit ever since Jack Johnson visited years ago. It’s a really great place to have a gig here, there’s so much stuff to see, walk around and there’s nothing quite like this.”

Roxy, another newcomer to the Sessions, summed it up saying “…very impressed, easy to get in, nice atmosphere, good surroundings, can’t complain!”

The evening took an intimate turn with a stripped-back acoustic version of “Comin’ Up Easy,” featuring harmonious backing vocals. Nutini then delighted fans with a mellow rendition of “New Shoes,” a classic track from 2006, complete with expressive saxophone solos that added a fresh twist to the beloved song.

As the evening drew in, and the blue sunny skies turned soft pink and speckled, Nutini transitioned into a psychedelic rock version of “Pencil Full of Lead,” reminiscent of the Rolling Stones.

Towards the end of the evening, the crowd illuminated the venue with their phone torches, waving them in unison as Nutini performed “Candy,” the lead single from his 2009 album “Sunny Side Up.”

The kaleidoscope of colours on his backdrop, alongside the biomes lit up with warm reds and oranges, created a mesmerizing ambience. The crowd sang along, filming the fan favourite, who ended with an acapella section that had everyone joining in.

Bringing the evening to a close, Nutini delivered a powerful and emotional rendition of “Iron Sky.” His raspy, meaningful vocals resonated deeply with the audience, who erupted in applause; Nutini joined them in the crowd before his final goodbye.

He closed the concert with “Shine a Light,” a single from his latest album. As he declared his love for the audience, a disco ball slowly lowered, casting a sea of sparkles over the crowd and across the Eden landscape.

The magical display left everyone with smiles and lasting memories of an unforgettable night.
