A tattoo studio in the heart of Truro is to open their doors this weekend for a feline themed charity flash day in aid of Cats Protection.

House of Mojo, which can be found at High Cross in the city centre, are offering tattoos priced at £30 for one or £50 for two, which can be chosen from a series of pre-selected designs.

All proceeds will go towards the charity’s Cornwall Adoption Centre, based at Carnon Downs, which strives to improve the lives of cats and kittens, as well as offering education for owners, right in the Duchy.

The tattoos will be provided on a first come, first served basis this Sunday (April 28) with studio doors open from 11.00 am until 6.00 pm, depending on demand.

“My girlfriend works there so I have seen a lot of behind the scenes stuff,” explained House of Mojo owner, Tim Hinton, in discussion with CHAOS Radio. “We have fostered quite a lot of kittens there as well. I think there has maybe been about nine months of my life that I have not owned a cat. I have always been a massive fan of cats but seeing that fostering side of it, the caring side, they do amazing things down there.

“It is such a tiny little centre and they turn over a lot of cats, finding homes, finding good places for them – even feral cats – finding them safer places that they can go and live, in barns and farms and things. I have done charity tattoo days before and it just sort of felt right. We had a chat about it in the shop and everyone was keen. We spent a bit of time thinking about what would be the best charity for us and, with our connections to Cats Protection, we all kind of know firsthand what they do.

“[Cats Protection] have helped in any way they can really, which has been great. They are turning up on the day with information about the cats and about what they do as well so it is not just tattooing. We will put our machines down around six o’clock but we might go on a little bit later.

“We are not going to be putting anything in difficult places, we are keeping it arms and legs only, mostly because the quicker we can do it, the more money we raise. I would love to do a hundred tattoos but it is obviously time depending. We will see how the day goes but that would be fantastic.”

Anyone wishing to attend on the day are advised that payment must be made via cash only, although there will be the option to make donations via the Cats Protection website.

There is a loose two tattoo maximum, as after that you will need to rejoin the queue should you wish for more. Tattoos will be for arms and legs only, and all the designs are set sizes and just outlines with no exceptions.

Do ensure you take ID along with you, which will be required to complete the consent forms, and be advised that only one person at a time will be allowed into the work area, unless assistance is required.

For more information, including a look at what tattoos are available via the flash sheets, simply search House of Mojo Tattoos on Facebook and, as their accompanying statement reads, do remember to ‘be kind’.

“We’re raising money for charity. Be patient, there may well be a wait. We will be doing our best to keep things running as smooth and fast as we can.”
