Tickets are on sale for St Austell Players’ production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, which takes place from 26th to 29th November 2024 at St Austell Arts Centre.
Made famous by the Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh film, this raw, sensual and tense play tells the story of delicate Blanche Dubois, who is visiting her sister Stella at her New Orleans home in 1947.
The world has changed from the rural Mississippi where they both grew up. The weather and the music are hot, the neighbourhood is mixed, rowdy and crowded and Blanche must try to navigate this strange new world.
Can she find her way amongst the violence and passion that Stella and her brutish husband Stanley live by? Or will her past catch up with her?
Director Dorothy Nelson is looking forward to bringing the classic play to life, saying: “Many people know the classic Marlon Brando film, and the play has had multiple adaptations and productions over the years – including a modernised version starring Gillian Anderson.
“It has been a pleasure to develop our own re-telling of the story which is so full of passion, heat, tension and violence while also demonstrating the tender relationships between the characters as they try to navigate their situations.”
“It has been a huge task to take on such complex characters, but our actors have done a tremendous job. We can’t wait to welcome audiences and showcase the hard work of everyone in the team.”
