Nestled on the outskirts of Truro, the Punchbowl and Ladle has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment. CHAOS Radio community journalist, Janice Rose, was invited to the opening party to help celebrate its stunning new look.
Quintessentially British, the Punchbowl and Ladle boasts a thatched roof, beamed ceilings, inglenook fireplaces, and a delightful maze of rooms catering to every occasion.
Whether you’re seeking private dining, a pool room, intimate lounges, or a buzzing bar and restaurant area, this pub has it all. The recent revamp blends soft, muted tones with nautical highlights, creating a calm yet inviting atmosphere.
The redesigned restaurant now offers cosy, intimate spaces for smaller parties while maintaining the traditional long-table setup for larger gatherings.
The festive season was in full swing on opening night, and the air was filled with the beautiful
acappella harmonies of the Kesson Tus Singers, performing an array of carols.
“We’re so lucky,” remarked one guest, Felicity, a lifelong resident of the area. “It’s been amazing to see what Bella and Oli have done here. They’ve really brought the heart back to the community.”
Annabell, co-owner and general manager, spoke passionately about the pub’s transformation.
“We wanted to give the local community their pub back,” she explained. “It’s all about building relationships, and the locals here have been so welcoming and supportive. It’s a joy to be part of such a special place.”

This sentiment was echoed by guests throughout the evening, who praised the events calendar, which includes painting nights, quizzes, bingo, and live music, as well as the inviting atmosphere created by the new team at the helm.
Annabell’s focus on hospitality and creating a welcoming environment for all is evident in
everything they do. She summed it up perfectly, saying: “We just want to make sure every guest
feels like they belong, whether they’re a regular or it’s their first visit.”
Head vhef Oli, who leads the kitchen, shares a similar passion, adding: “I love seeing the joy on
people’s faces when they eat my food.
His dedication was on full display with a scrumptious array of canapés served throughout the evening. The offerings included crispy fish goujons, pigs in blankets, smoked salmon and a rich, cheesy quiche that left guests wanting more.
“Oli always provides a fantastic spread,” Felicity said. “The food is always mouth-wateringly delicious.”
For Oli, it’s not just about the food – it’s about the team.
“I’ve worked hard to build a strong kitchen team that shares my standards and love for what we do,” he said, thereby ensuring that every dish reflects both care and quality.
Oli is especially proud of their roast dinners, adding: “Every pub can cook a roast.” His
goal is to deliver ‘the best roast people have ever tasted’, ensuring it surpasses all others.
If you’re in search of a truly exceptional pub with a stunning interior, a remarkable team,
mouth watering food, and an inviting atmosphere, the Punchbowl and Ladle should be high on your list.
Janice has already made her reservation for Sunday Roast – book now and don’t miss out, as this place is sure to become one of the area’s top dining destinations.
