Gunners Kids CIC has been launched to support families with children when a parent or caregiver has been given a terminal diagnosis.

The organisation aims to enable families to create lasting memories with their loved ones by offering activities, workshops, information, and peer support in a safe, understanding, and welcoming environment.

Set up in memory of Chris Gunner who passed away in April this year, after a three year battle with Bowel Cancer, the organisation currently offers an online support forum for families affected by terminal illness and plans to be able to offer activity days, workshops and information sessions from February next year.

Co-Founder and Chris’s wife, Tamsin Chapman-Gunner, said: “When Chris was ill we noticed there was no real support in Cornwall for families during the anticipatory grief period. When someone is diagnosed with a terminal illness, both the individual and their loved ones experience grief and loss, even before the person passes away.

“This anticipatory grief can persist for days, weeks, months and even years, depending on the duration of the illness.

“Anticipatory grief can provoke intense emotions, especially in children, often leaving them shocked, confused, frightened, and worried.

“It was his vision to create something to support families in the same situation as we found ourselves in. Unfortunately he passed away before we were able to make it happen, so we are continuing his project in his memory. It will be his legacy.”

Gunners Kids CIC are currently fundraising to be able to support as many families as possible. You can donate via Crowdfunder or set up a regular monthly donation via https://www.givengain.com/c/gunners-kids-cic

Tamsin added: “One of the things we are hoping to provide soon are support boxes for children. Anyone interested in supporting this, can purchase an item from our Amazon wish list.”

Together, Gunners Kids CIC is committed to providing essential support and comfort to families during one of life’s most challenging times.

Families with children who are affected by terminal illness are able to register with the organisation via THIS FORM – which can also be found on the organisation’s Facebook page.
